The 160KN Glass Insulator is a heavy-duty, high-performance electrical component engineered exclusively for ultra-high-voltage (UHV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) power transmission systems. Designed to withstand extreme mechanical loads up to 160 kilonewtons (KN) while maintaining exceptional electrical insulation integrity, it serves as a critical structural and insulating barrier between high-capacity energized conductors and grounded infrastructure (e.g., UHV transmission towers, large-scale substation frameworks). Crafted from ultra-high-strength tempered borosilicate glass via precision manufacturing processes, this insulator combines industry-leading load-bearing capability, superior environmental resilience, and long-term operational stability—making it an indispensable choice for large-scale cross-regional power grids, intercontinental transmission projects, and heavy-duty energy infrastructure worldwide.
Its premium glass matrix undergoes a rigorous two-step tempering process: high-temperature fusion molding followed by controlled rapid cooling, which imbues the insulator with unmatched resistance to thermal shock, physical impact, and chemical corrosion from salt mist, acid rain, and industrial contaminants. The insulator’s smooth, anti-pollution surface repels dust and moisture buildup, drastically reducing the risk of surface flashover even in high-humidity or heavily polluted operating environments. What’s more, its reinforced structural design ensures reliable performance under extreme weather conditions, such as blizzards, typhoons, and heavy ice accumulation, a key requirement for UHV projects that span diverse geographic and climatic zones. With a service life exceeding 30 years and simplified visual inspection protocols, it delivers long-term cost efficiency and operational safety for grid operators managing high-stakes energy transmission networks.

Since 1958, the total sales volume of Thunder Lightning brand tempered glass insulator has exceeded 100 million pieces, accounting for half of the country and one sixth of the world.
The glass insulator is composed of an iron cap, toughened glass parts and steel pin, which are combined with cement adhesive. Before assembling, the top of the steel pin is provided with a soft gasket, the inner cavity of the iron cap and the pin ends at the contact point with the cement adhesive are covered by tar. The gasket and tar are used to buff in case of damage when insulator facing thermal expansion and contraction. Toughened glass parts are used to insulate.
Glass insulators have the characteristics of small size, light weight, zero-value self-breaking, and easy detection; high mechanical strength; good arc resistance; good self-cleaning performance and not easy to age. In addition, the spraying material has the advantages of strong hydrophobicity, long-term resistance to pollution, low leakage current on the surface, and maintenance-free during operation; it is widely used in various circuits at home and abroad.
Disk suspension glass insulators are divided into standard type, anti-pollution type, DC type, , aerodynamic type, out-ribs type and ground wire type.

Company Profile
Nanjing Electric was founded in 1936 and is the first high-voltage ceramic manufacturer in the history of China's electrical industry. It is also the headquarters of Baiyun Group in the East China region. Nanjing Electric has been rated as one of the top 500 mechanical industrialization enterprises in China and a first-class industrial enterprise in China. At present, the base covers an area of 19 hectares and employs 1000+ people. The industrial base was put into operation with equipment in 2015. Nanjing Electric specializes in developing glass insulators, composite insulators, and ceramic insulator products. In 1958, China developed the first Tempered Glass insulator and condenser Bushing, filling the domestic gap. The company's products are exported to more than 120 countries and regions around the world, such as the Americas, Australia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and more than 50% of countries and regions in Europe. The main customers are national power grid companies or local power grid companies in various countries. The domestic market has achieved full coverage. The company's products are widely used in national strategic projects, including 33 UHV projects above 800KV. Our company is the largest insulator supplier in national engineering.
Nanjing Electric International Co., Ltd., formerly known as the Overseas Business Unit of Nanjing Electric Technology Group, established an international trade company in 2021 based on the development strategy of the group. With insulators and sleeves as the two flagship exhibits, the company actively carries out resource and multi-party cooperation around common values and market views. On the way to the world, international trading companies will firmly step forward and work hard for the century old white clouds and the world's white clouds.
The international trade team participated in international power exhibitions held in countries each year such as Germany, the United States, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, India, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Spain, Mexico, etc; Track the progress of key power projects in various countries; Further promote the internationalization process of products.
Facing the future, the company will focus on the needs of national power construction, seize the opportunities of new power infrastructure, ultra-high voltage projects, the "the Belt and Road" construction, and the development of green energy. According to the strategic positioning of Baiyun Electric Group to build the company into the second headquarters of the group relying on the Yangtze River Delta, the company will build and develop a world-class insulator and related product R&D and production base, explore and build new products, new technologies, and new formats, Make new contributions to national power construction and global power development, and strive to become a century old enterprise.
