In this era of surging globalization, China's economy has entered a phase of high-quality development. As international market demands grow increasingly diverse, enterprises are actively seeking broader growth opportunities and value increments while continuously enhancing their core competitiveness. Facing historic opportunities presented by the global energy transition and the reshaping of industrial chains, China's power equipment industry is shifting from “scale expansion” to “value creation,” and from “product exports” to “brand globalization.”
As one of China's leading power equipment enterprises, Baiyun Electric Group leverages its 45 years of technological expertise to accelerate its international expansion. In its journey of global outreach and forging a win-win ecosystem, the company has charted a sustainable path toward realizing its vision of “A Century-Old Baiyun, A Global Baiyun.”
Pioneering New Frontiers: The Trailblazers Going Global
Nanjing Electric Technology Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Nanjing Electric), a subsidiary of Baiyun Electric Group, embarked on its international journey early on. As China's first high-voltage porcelain insulator manufacturer in the electronics industry, its “Leidian” brand porcelain products achieved their first overseas export in the 1960s. With over six decades of export history, Nanjing Electric has witnessed and participated in the entire process of New China's industrial development and power product exports.
Following capacity expansions, Nanjing Electric accelerated its internationalization. In 2018, it established an Overseas Business Division. To date, its flagship products have reached five continents, securing contracts in 120 countries and regions including Portugal, Italy, Ireland, the UK, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Kazakhstan, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Mexico, and Southeast Asian nations. Its product portfolio—including glass insulators, composite insulators, and high-voltage bushings—supports critical infrastructure projects across the global power sector.
This global expansion stems from absolute confidence in our proprietary technology. Through continuous refinement of raw material formulations and manufacturing processes, Nanjing Electric has developed 550kN and 840kN AC/DC glass insulators, achieving comprehensive technical performance that leads international counterparts. Simultaneously, the self-explosion rate of its products on transmission lines can be controlled at one in ten thousand or lower, with a maximum service life exceeding 50 years. Globally, fewer than three companies meet this standard. Leveraging industry-leading core technologies and service capabilities, Nanjing Electric continues to gain recognition in the global energy sector, establishing itself as an indispensable technical partner in the worldwide energy transition.
During this same period, multiple subsidiaries and affiliated companies within the Group also embarked on their internationalization journeys. The Shaoxing, Zhejiang production base developed 220kV transformers suitable for altitudes up to 5,500 meters, maintaining a decade-long record of successful application. This achievement laid a solid foundation for global market expansion, with products entering 51 countries including Argentina, Germany, Spain, Tajikistan, Jordan, Indonesia, and South Africa. The Guilin production base has won the National Science and Technology Progress Award three times, leveraging its robust capabilities to manufacture and sell over 3.5 million units (sets) of various capacitor products internationally; The Beijing International Engineering Center focuses on developing and implementing international EPC projects and overseas business related to the Group's product chains, driving the “going global” strategy for Baiyun's industrial ecosystem. To date, it has successfully delivered projects including the Bangladesh Heavy Oil Power Generation 132kV Substation Equipment Integration Project, the Uganda Rural Grid Submarine Cable and Distribution Network Project, and the Uzbekistan RCT Cascade Hydropower Station Project, contributing to power grid development in Belt and Road countries.
Seizing Opportunities to Tell the Story of Chinese Enterprises Going Global
While Baiyun Electric possesses years of overseas trade experience, product exports represent only the starting point of corporate globalization. Linking overseas resources and integrating into global markets constitutes a more strategically visionary approach to “going global.”
On one hand, the state strongly supports enterprises going global, introducing a series of policies to help companies deeply engage in global competition. At this year's National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference sessions, Premier Li Qiang outlined key government tasks for the year, including “expanding high-level opening-up and actively stabilizing foreign investment and trade.” This robust policy support makes overseas expansion one of the most certain opportunities amid uncertainty.
On the other hand, overseas power construction has entered a new cycle. Against the backdrop of AI industry trends and energy transition, global electricity demand continues to grow. However, competition in this sector overseas remains dominated by European and American companies, with China's overseas market share for certain products estimated at less than 5%. This temporary mismatch between overseas supply and demand presents an opportunity for Chinese manufacturers to demonstrate the competitive advantages of a manufacturing powerhouse.
Since 2024, the Group has intensified efforts, elevating internationalization to a key strategic priority and accelerating its overseas expansion. Guided by the principles of “unified coordination with decentralized execution, phased advancement, product-first approach, and localized adaptation,” it is progressively developing region-specific expansion strategies. While exporting high-quality products, the Group is also exploring models such as channel distribution, overseas offices, joint ventures, and production bases. This approach fully integrates domestic strengths with local demands, achieving a new leap from “exporting” to “going global.”
Over the past year, Baiyun Electric Group has expanded its footprint globally, covering North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and other regions. International projects have achieved continuous breakthroughs: its HVDC products made their debut overseas in Saudi Arabia with a contract worth $254 million; its glass insulators broke the monopoly of European and American companies in the Middle East market, securing its first multi-million-dollar project in the region; and it won a bid for a glass insulator and metal fittings project in Pakistan valued at 150 million yuan.
Last year, the establishment of a joint venture in Malaysia signaled the formal implementation of the Southeast Asian market strategy. Moving forward, the Group and its subsidiaries will leverage localized operations to export China's technical standards and industrial chain models to the region.
Riding the Wind: Demonstrating Robust Momentum in Overseas Business Development
Economic globalization is an irreversible trend of our era—no countercurrent can halt the eastward flow of the mighty river. As a pioneer and participant in China's reform and opening-up, Baiyun Electric Group now proactively unleashes the dynamic energy of Chinese smart manufacturing.
The Group's headquarters welcomed visits from partners across the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea, and other nations. Through resource sharing and experience exchange, broader cooperation opportunities have opened in the field of green smart energy. Nanjing Electric's overseas operations have also entered a new chapter, with delegations from major power enterprises and partners in Thailand, Turkey, Brazil, Pakistan, Portugal, and Indonesia visiting to engage in in-depth discussions on core topics including product acceptance testing, quality system audits, technical seminars, and business cooperation negotiations.
Overseas exhibitions are also progressing smoothly. In April, Nanjing Electric showcased its industry-leading insulators, bushings, hollow composite insulators, mobile substations, and other products at the Middle East Energy Exhibition. This attracted significant attention from international energy experts, industry leaders, and potential partners, leading to in-depth cooperation agreements with multiple international partners.
From initially penetrating local markets through product offerings to now adapting to local conditions, integrating into the global landscape, and exploring diverse business models, Baiyun Electric Group's “going global” strategy is accelerating steadily and firmly.
Moving forward, the Group will intensify its investment in internationalization, focusing on advancing market globalization, product internationalization, brand expansion, and talent/mechanism internationalization. While delivering products and services with enhanced cost-effectiveness, Baiyun will integrate into local ecosystems to create value, deeply aligning its capabilities with regional value chains. Guided by the vision of “A Century-Old Baiyun, A Global Baiyun” and aiming to build a world-class “BPG” brand, the Group strives to ascend to higher dimensions of the value chain.
